Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - should i offer this kid this deal?

hey guys, i have a pretty cosmetically beat up landyachtz switch and i'm thinking about offering my friend with a nemesis this deal:

my switch (complete with bears and luv yo muthas (slightly coned)) and fifty bucks for his rayne nemesis deck? i have a job and i work a lot so buying a set of trucks isn't a big deal for me at all, what do you guys think?

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - Newbie to Hills. Need advice

Well back home where I rode, EVERYWHERE was flat so I never really had the opportunity to experience riding big hills. Now I'm at college at Ohio u and there's some pretty sweet hills here which are fun. My only issues are turning and sometimes stopping (which are both crucial). I rode my first hill went decently fast, then bam turn at the bottom so i hit the turn but the board gets mad wobbles. Do I just need to commit more or what? Then another time same hill, except I started at the top this time and started going too fast. No gloves on and didn't feel comfortable foot braking so I rode the hill out and bailed in the grass at the bottom and slid a solid 35 yards until I hit a sidewalk.

So mainly, is there a certain speed where you should avoid foot braking or do you just have to work up to the higher speeds? And how do I keep chill during fast turns?

If it helps I'm on an earthwing supermodel, indy 215's, and otang 4pres purples (83a I believe)
Thanks

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - Should i get this board?

The Rayne Vendetta:

I've heard A LOT of things about this board both good and bad. I want to get this as my second board because I want to get into a bit of sliding. I live in Florida so theres not too many hills here, so no DH. Would this board be good for me if i want to just commute and get into sliding? (i've never slid before, but i wanna learn). I've heard this board de-lams or cracks after about 2 weeks, is this true? If so I will get some shock pads and nose/tail guards. Also post other suggestions for my style.

Thanks :)

EDIT: I was planning on having this set-up:
Rayne Vendetta (obviously)
Caliber 50s
Abec11 Flashbacks
Bones Reds (who cares)

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - New here need some advice

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - Loaded slide gloves, wrong size.

I bought Loaded 'race gloves' for like $98. I tried them on, they fit, but they were tight. The store guy said they were L/XL and they were the only ones in stock, so I got them thinking that if that was the largest size and they were a bit tight they were still the ones to get.

Then after testing them a few times I saw on the tag that they're SM/M. I think it was an honest mistake in the store and I'm really hoping they'll let me exchange them after swapping the pucks... if that is they have L/XL gloves.

I'm glove size 9, I know this because I'm a chemist and so I wear gloves all the time at work, and I wear L or XL there. These ones fit, but.. yeah, I totally didn't think of actually looking at the tag. They're pretty tight and I'd have to adjust the puck to get it centered over the heel part of my hand.

Other thing.. Loaded, your $77/$98 Canadian gloves should come with a sticker. =|

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - Laminating a bamboo board??

Hi new to the forum, reason I made an account is to find out if I can laminate some of the bamboo flooring I have into a board?

Its like 3/4 or 5/8 I'm not quite sure..
If someone responds I'll get the proper dimensions in the morning.

I have no I would think I could cut strips out of the flooring and laminate them together and then put a concave in it while the glue is still wet
I'm new to boarding and I want to try making a board myself.
I don't really have extra money so I can't really buy a board (I already have trucks and wheels) Or buy a sheet of plywood, just trying to work with what I have.

What the flooring is bamboo laminated together it's like 3" or 4" wide, 3' feet long (I want a longer board than 3 feet)
Should I just forget the bamboo and use something else?

THANKS : )

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - Help! Rattling noise?

Hey there. I'm a beginner longboarder, had my board for about a week. Yesterday I took off my trucks to put soap shavings in the pivot cups and ever since my board has had annoying rattles. No matter how tight I tighten my trucks, I get a rattle coming from the front when I carve left, and rattle from the back when I carve right.

I cleaned my bearings and and tightened/loosened my wheels but the rattling didn't go away. I think it's coming from my trucks. I tried taking off the trucks and putting them back on making sure the everything was in there tight, but it still didn't go away! Everything seems tight, like my washers etc. yet the sound is still here.

Here's my setup:
Arbor bamboo fish
70mm 78a Arbor street wheels
Paris 180mm trucks
Bones Reds bearings with spacers

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - Disney World resorts are not longboard friendly

Spent the week down at Disney World with the 2 youngest kids. My 9 y/o and I took our shortest longboards(...that's another forum). I tried riding during the day and got cut-off almost immediately! Then I tried it at night (after 10:00PM) and still was chased by security:evil:. Of course I ran and got away(thanks BC longboards) on the Moray, she handled like a dream on the getaway:clap:.
Sooooo, that was such a rush I proceeded to do it the following night,(after 11:00 this time). No chase this time, but I was more stealth in WHERE I rode. So if you go, ride time is after 11:00PM:-$. I stayed in the Old Key West resort, so depending where you might stay, it's risky to say the least.
I would have ridden right over that DAMN MOUSE if he would have showed his face while I was riding my Moray and the boy didn't get a chance to ride until we reached Vero Beach](*,).

My recommendation: Take a week, 2 day's at the parks then go cruzin' at the beach and forget that place. My kids liked the beach just as much!!!

end rant/

Silverfish Longboarding - The Longboard Skateboarding Community - General Longboarding - EW Hightailer... good choice for converting skateboarder?

I just started skating a couple months ago, I never skated before in my life, I'm 31. For whatever reason, I just really got the desire to get a longboard all of a sudden, got totally stoked, read everything I could find about them, literally dreamed about longboarding..

But when it finally came down to it, I couldn't afford a longboard, but wanted to roll on a piece of wood, so I bought a used skateboard and put some big, soft wheels on it, they are actually kind of ridiculous looking on it, lol..

But, I feel like a longboarder riding a skateboard, and I actually like the kickflips, and doing manuals, and the option to ollie if I ever can learn it...

So... what do you guys think about the EarthWing Hightailer? Would that be kind of like a good transition board for me, is it basically just a badass skateboard with some longboard qualities??
